This is worse then the news when they started planting chips in peoples' hands. TBH I wonder if someone high up in the Chinese government saw the episode and was like "that's a great idea". It's hard to believe that a show could see the writing on the wall so accurately. I suppose it could have been inspired by some of what was already going on in the country at the time. I'm not sure exactly when the program was announced relative to that episode. The chip thing is far less sinister because it's basically just letting people open secure doors and possibly make payments.
