Steam and GOG are different, and not really what we were talking about. Steam and GOG are basically stores. We were talking about servers for individual games and multiplayer servers and stuff like that. There are plenty of those that have shut down. Xbox Live for example no longer works with the original Xbox. In a few years, I bet Xbox Live servers for the 360 will be shut down too.

So you think stores like Steam don't run on servers?

Did I say that? No, I did not.

I said we were talking specifically about servers for individual games and multiplayer servers and that kind of stuff. Steam and GOG are run on servers of course, but they are really more of a storefront than anything else, so they don't really compare.

If you scroll back up to your first post, you said no server will be shutting down, and I have already mentioned that the Xbox Live server for the the original Xbox has already shut down. I also mentioned that Nintendo is shutting down the Nintendo Wii servers in January.

So you're wrong about these things never being shut down. They do get shut down. Heck, are there even any active servers for popular 90s/early 2000s MMORPGS like Everquest anymore? Does anyone even remember Everquest? If you go to the Steam page of many old school games, there is often a notice saying that the multiplayer server no longer exists so only single player is functional today, like the notice on the F.E.A.R.
