I've read on Nintendo history a few times and it's always about how they made an epic effort to sell the NES in USA.

Europe is never mentioned.

All Nintendo consoles did shit in Europe until the Wii came out.

N64 sold like 5 million. GameCube sold around 4 million.

SNES, N64 and Gamecube were all culturally relevant here. The SNES was definitely second place - the most fondly remembered games of the era from people I speak to are Sonic and Streets of Rage, with the odd person here or there having played Super Mario World. I'm sure that Mario characters do just fine in Europe so I don't accept that categorically Nintendo was weak here pre-Wii. But I do know the idea of Mega Man, Crono, Samus et al being as strong as Sonic the Hedgehog has always seemed insane to me!

I said the consoles.

They were for the hardcore. Mega drive was more popular than SNES. Im not talking about the hardcore gfaqs community. That has always been made up of people form North America anyway.

I live in Uk. Back in high school probably 1 in 10 people who gamed had an n64. The rest had a ps1. GameCube was worse. Even the friggin Xbox sold more.
