Reddit is better if you're bad at looking things up I guess because yeah most communities heavily encourage you asking every question you have fresh in a megathread due to OCD-like management of topics that ask questions rather than just... looking it up, like you could do on a GameFAQs forum.

As such the community's reaction is kinder in those situations because it's encouraged, rather than GameFAQs which will have jackasses point out the other topics made on the question. But at the same time it makes the process less efficient for someone who might have a lot of questions and doesn't want to wait for an assortment of posters to answer their questions piecemeal.

Some have some good persistent resources like wikis and stuff but yeah in general I would say the useful gaming reddit is the exception (but the exceptions are quite good) and not the norm.
