Does the game require multiple warframes to progress or is it more just to have diversity in your gameplay?

it's horizontal progression so yes you have to level multiple warframes which I don't like either. it's tied to a prestige rank or something that goes up every time you master a new warframe or weapon. so if you really like a certain weapon, too bad, you just hit max lvl with it and there's no point in using it again

So its normal to use one weapon you love and tons odd stuff your just leveling...
