Everything looks really colorfully done and good backgrounds but combat is fun though?

I know you talked a lot about certain things being Opie but what about the basics of the combat?

Yeah combat is a lot of fun. The OP stuff only comes in after you grind out the super OP gear which requires near 100% completing the game. It's quite fast paced but still requires smarts. Mashing will not work. Most enemies have some kind of mechanic that allows you to break them which makes them take extra damage so a lot of combat is focused around breaking the enemies. The way you do that is different for each enemy and its a lot of fun. It's surprising how diverse the fighting actually is. Boss fights are also pretty great and usually have some kind of special mechanic that may or may not require bouncing shots off walls to hit weakspots in the back or stuff or like that.

Aside from those small issues at the end game I really only have good things to say about crosscode. Each aspect of the game is amazingly well designed and it all fits together so well.

EDIT: a small overview is that you can shoot projectiles, shoot a charged projectile that bounces off walls 3 times, do a melee combo, block, and dash. Using the art button during those actions will use the corresponding art (so pressing the art button during a dash will use the dash art, doing it in neutral or while melee attacking will use the melee art, doing it while guarding is guard art, doing it while aiming uses the throw art). Throughout the game you unlock all 4 elements (fire, ice, wave and shock) and you can switch to their mode. Each mode has its own skill tree. Using attacks during that mode increases your elemental build up and when it maxes out you overload and get put out of elemental mode while it cooldown.

Ideally you switch back to no element before it overloads and switch back strategically. At end game with all 4 elements you can be switching mid combo a ton. Each element has its own versions of arts and arts can be charged up to level 3 so you have access to like 50 arts technically. Ice mode has access to bastion making your guard cover all directions, wave form has the most hp and regen, fire...just has fire, fire is strong though, and lightning has lots of dashing abilities. Each element has its own ailment that its arts apply (fire has burn, ice slows, lightning stuns which is deals small damage and knocks the enemy out of their actions every few seconds, and wave "marks" making the enemy take double ranged damage.

The game is fun but theres a lot of room to push the player further and really make things go crazy. I'm really hoping the arena and post game stuff do this.

EDIT 2: I forgot if you time your guard at the last second you perfect guard taking 0 damage and breaking and downing enemies during certain attacks. It's a lot of fun to do but the timing is pretty tight.
