People say they vote for characters who are from their favorite series, which is lame because GameFAQs already has competitions for that. I don't agree with arbitrary limits though. New characters only would be equally lame, and what constitutes a new character? For example, let's look at the Mario series with the smash-hit installment in the 3D Super Mario games, Super Mario Odyssey. A breakout star from that game was Mayor Pauline. Obviously Pauline is not new to the video-game world, she was the OG Mario girl, and appeared in a variety of Mario v. Donkey Kong games since then.
