Because it wasn't a show for just black people. Martin, is a show for black people, The Steve Harvey Show is a show for black people, The Hugeleys, was a show for black people, One on One, at least the first season, was a show for black people, Living Single was a show for black people, The Parkers was a show for black people, Moesha,Girlfriends, Half and Half, In the house, Are we there yet, The Jamie Foxx Show, those were all shows for black people, notice what they all had in common?

....black people?

Fresh Prince didn't solely mock white people, it took shots at black culture as well such as phil's activist friend who called him a sellout for working for the man rather than just destroying things and protesting and the fraternity that turned Calton away because he wasn't in their words "Black enough" for them and how Will's actions and attitude are portrayed as stupid and wrong most of the time hell Phil was a republican even if they didn't outright say it.
