Article clearly says they are suspected of being here illegally after failing background checks. Don't you have any reading comprehension?

Learn how to read:

Nearly two thirds of those arrested 109 in total had no criminal record, the agency said. Another 61 of those arrested did have criminal records, but ICE did not specify the crimes and said it could not break down convictions by violent and nonviolent offenses.

(...)

Just under 80 percent of people screened by ICE during the sponsorship process showed results that they were not in the country legally, the agency said.

What part of that is supposed to contradict what he said?

See bold

That seems to support what he said.

If you disregard the 20% they are here legally, that is

So, they were suspected of being here illegally and either 80% of those arrested were here illegally or they arrested 80% of the total number of would be sponsors because they were found to be here illegally. The language is vague enough that it could be either.

Either way, it mostly supports his point. 80% is an overwhelming majority of that group.
