"Don't kink shame" is very much a modern concept, and almost entirely exists because of how powerfully the Internet has desensitized us to sexual material in general. But even that mentality still mostly only applies to people online talking in a relatively anonymous environment. In the real world, it's still pretty taboo to just blurt out in front of your friends or coworkers or random strangers on the train that you love masturbating to people dressed in animal costumes, or licking women's armpits, or videos of women dressed as nuns getting fisted by midgets. And most people are absolutely going to shit on you for being a weirdo. And god help you if you happen to let it slip that your kink borders on pedophilia (even if it's just hentai or older women dressing up like and acting like little girls) - that sort of thing gets you put on lists. Regardless of how a generation of children raised on the Internet might believe otherwise, the entire idea of society as a whole enforcing shared morality and norms on everyone (and using guilt, shame, ostracism, or outright emotional, mental, or even physical abuse to enforce it) exists for a reason, and it's hard-wired deep into human behavioral instincts. It's basically how we've socialized children into society for thousands of years, and how we tend to maintain society as a whole. WHAT is being demonized or shamed may change, but the methods for doing so almost never do.
