Im surprised he's retiring from youtube

He's not. Youtube is going belly up. YouTube has NEVER turned a profit. It's a huge loss for Google. They eat the costs since YouTube has become such an important platform and, in theory, a future money maker. But the people in charge of YouTube are desperately trying to get the finance side of things under control. Unfortunately, that effort is resulting in a lot of YouTubers losing serious amounts of cash and viewers. More frustratingly, exactly why your channel is losing money and views is often completely unpredictable and unexplainable.

I get what Boogie is saying. Being a YouTuber has to be terrifying as fuck. Imagine going into work everyday with an insane boss that you never see and who could randomly fire you at any minute. "Hey, I just got a raise! Oh, I'm fired." A year of that would drive anyone bonkers. Imagine not knowing if two months from now if you'll be able to make your house payment. Imagine living with that uncertainty every single day. Your nerves would be shot to hell.

People are unsympathetic to YouTubers, like "go and get a real job." But where do you go if you're in the online entertainment industry? It's not like YouTube has a real competitor. "Fuck this shit, I'm going to work at Dailymotion." People expect YouTubers to just abandon their entertainment career. But is that fair? Imagine if that attitude translated to your career. "You don't like the way the hospital is run, Doctor? Then get a real job at McDonalds then."
