good bet youre also the sort of "common" person referred to here who knows absolutely nothing about guns and therefore has no sense about them. that is exactly the sort of person who should have nothing to do with the decision on what weapons a person is or is not allowed to own.

You think people actually need a semi automatic or fully automatic weapon. So the bolded is especially ironic.

I've never met anyone who owned a fully automatic weapon. It's almost as though nobody does. Semi-automatic? That's child's play. Real men use revolutionary war-era muskets that take 2 minutes to reload properly. Either that or they hunt with their bare hands. Way more efficient.
