I do hope we'll see newer and more different gameplay types what with the rumors that the next gen consoles CPUs are more up to snuff this time around Link HT posted... Major studios are only be able to put out one or two games per console generation at this rate, it's ridiculous. Until better game development tools come out, games will continue to take 4 years or longer to develop.
