Yeah, every time an artist depicts child abuse they have to actually abuse a child for reference. Just like every time someone kills someone in a movie or video game, the creators actually kill someone to make sure it looks realistic.
I mean you have to spend years studying anatomy and understanding the human body, how do you get good at drawing children without references?
Or things like dragons and aliens?
I mean it's not like you can just come up with it out if the air, you need to understand how to draw people and study skeletons to get to that point, good artists have a shit ton of experience drawing people to understand how to draw an alien or a ton of references to draw a dragon or the like, it doesn't just come out of the air.
