That doesn't mean my entire personality is defined by my real name. And I'm guessing that if a store clerk called you Steve you wouldn't start screaming and vandalzing the store, right? There was no excuse for the customer's behavior. If they repeatedly kept calling you Steve after you told them what your name was/what you want to be called I think anyone would be rightly peeved. And that's understandable. That's when you calmly get on the line with management / higher ups and lodge a complaint.
