Apparently the boring promos where they just stand around calmly speaking to each other draws higher ratings than the matches. So in their minds they probably think it's what's best for business. Obviously it's done some damage in the long-term, though.

It's like how all the old school guys say not to hotshot for too long and that you need to pull back and get a little average sometimes. That whole process has basically played out with the extended promos. They get a slight ratings boost from them but they don't know when to pull back, so it just gets old and people stop watching. But at this point it's basically all they have left ratings-wise.
