In theory, you could get into an argument with someone that spans three messages and leads to your incarceration. Someone could curse at you, you curse back, they say whatever, you tell them it's on sight... they delete their first message.

It now looks like:

You curse
They saw whatever
You tell them it's on sight

They screen shot that and report it to the cops
You spend thousands of dollars in bond and lawyer fees defending yourself
You are now guilty until proven innocent

I hate 2018 so much

I'd imagine they'd require more than a screenshot. Both sides could delete messages. I'm guessing if a report is filed they would check all messages, including 'deleted' comments to see if a crime was commited.
