Killing someone to cover your escape is not justified. That's clearly a murder of convenience. Sure the alternative sucks for you, but that doesn't make the moral weight of such a decision go away.

It wasnt even to cover his escape. He went out of his way to find Tywin who was taking a shit.

Oh, so revenge then?

Definitely revenge.

In the novel Tyrion learned the truth about his wife, Tysha, and how she genuinely loved him. Tywin had lied to him, saying that Tysha was a whore Jaime had hired to teach Tyrion a lesson. Tywin had his men then take turns fucking Tysha while Tyrion watched, making Tyrion go last.

The story about her being a whore was a lie. Tysha actually loved Tyrion, and Tywin fabricated the story about her being a whore because he couldnt stand the idea of someone loving Tyrion and him being happy. This revelation is what pushed Tyrion over the edge.

In the show he was just mad because Tywin sentenced him for Joffreys death. They dropped the Tysha plot entirely despite setting it up in an earlier episode.
