I think as we get closer to that point, corporations and governments will be forced to invest in alternatives on a large scale. Fresh water though is a resource vital to human life and barring extremely expensive desalination plants that most countries could never afford on such a large scale, there aren't many alternatives to alleviate the water crisis an increasing number and of countries are experiencing.
