In all seriousness, with how slow we are to adapt to alternative fuel sources, it's going to be oil, since our fossil fuel reserves are going to be depleted in the next couple of decades.

I think as we get closer to that point, corporations and governments will be forced to invest in alternatives on a large scale. Fresh water though is a resource vital to human life and barring extremely expensive desalination plants that most countries could never afford on such a large scale, there aren't many alternatives to alleviate the water crisis an increasing number and of countries are experiencing.
