It's my favorite, but it's a bit dated in several respects and could be hard to get into for newcomers.

Compared to Skyrim, it's much more text-based (even important NPCs have limited voice acting), combat is superficially real-time rather than actually so (i.e. it uses dice rolls), there are no quest arrows in Morrowind (you're given directions instead) although you can make your own markers, quests are simpler but more freeform, and IMO the world is less generic / more interesting and the writing far better (it somehow manages to be more 'out there' while also feeling more grounded with a lot of religion/politics/etc.).

NPCs are rather static in Morrowind, while they have schedules in Oblivion and Skyrim. Morrowind has more hand-placed loot/enemies (which can make things really easy if you know where the good items are) and relies less on level scaling for the most part (chests in dungeons and some enemies are levelled). Morrowind's systems are often more permissive and easier to break (alchemy, spell crafting, enchanting, etc.). There are few transitions between the overworld and towns/cities in Morrowind (in Oblivion/Skyrim they're often separate areas).

The differences are many.
