If what we are actually is a combination of electrical signals and chemical reactions, it seems feasible that eventually it could be transferred artificially.

We can't even do that now with normal computer data. What we effectively do is copy it to a second location and then erase it at the original location.

Which is why "digital consciousnes", much like the Star Trek transporter, would effectively create a new copy of yourself while the original remains (or in the case of transporting, straight up murdering the original copy).

Unless the soul is a literal, quantifiable thing and we can figure out how to transmigrate it from one copy to another, the idea of downloading consciousness or otherwise leaving the meat behind to ghost across distances or through technology is kind of a pipe dream.



Pretty much every technological advancement is something that intelligent and educated people used to say was impossible
