The game is beginner friendly and the main narrative doesn't (often) touch on what happened in previous games or books, but the strongest moments in the first half of the game play off your history with the cast. The game is full of small, intimate moments, but it's richer if you understand the wistfulness or nostalgia when you reconnect with certain characters. Peridiam posted... W3 is either my #1 or #2 favorite game. Alongside the expansion packs, it's a phenomenal journey. And yeah, taken as a full package, what the Witcher accomplishes with its story is unparalleled in games this gen. If you're worried you only have time to play The Witcher 3 w/ expansions (which is a huge 100+ hour commitment), just bite the bullet and jump in.
