The only time I could see block/ignore being useful is if you are being stalked or constantly harassed by the same person, otherwise it's completely unnecessary.
What on earth do any of the egregious shitposting loons who cant spend a day without getting modded have to offer? Nothing.

That is true, but you shouldn't need a "don't let me see their post button to ignore them." There are plenty of people that have nothing useful to contribute ever, but you can simply not engage them...

whether or not that button is needed is completely irrelevant to the point. the point is that sometimes people don't want to see certain users' posts

Because they don't like what they have to say? Simply turning a person off that says things you don't like is not a healthy solution to anything.

It's because you're going out of your way to look at it in the dumbest manner

Just because I decide to put someone on ignore on a video game website who posts nothing but toxic shit, or commits to a really lame and unfunny gimmick 24/7, doesn't mean I'm going to expect to be able to do the same thing irl

It's like when fenderbender suggested to not mark posts because he thought that's gonna translate to real life, and people would expect to "mark and censor posts" irl. Like no. That doesn't happen

Plenty of people use the ignore feature as a way to silence anyone that doesn't agree with them. If they use it on a message board, what makes you think they won't resort to running away from comments they don't like in real life?

I don't think we are going to agree on this, except in the case of harassment in which the block/ignore feature is a wonderful tool.
