Do you realize how petty this shit is in the grand scheme of things in your actual life? People give less of a fuck about stuff that happens to their actual extended family members than they do about this shit that has nothing to do with them. I've spent years volunteering/working with rape abuse victims at shelters and with students. I see a prominent figure in the #MeToo movement calling a victim a liar only to come out and say she was "simply defending a friend" and have no one call for her to be held accountable? Yeah I'm going to feel a type of way. Victims already under-report as it is. So when a supposed ally does something like this, backtracks and admits their own lie with no repercussions?
