Hard truth is that Pokemon fans are probably more motivated to make Pokemon games, than Gamefreak. Also, those fans are probably better coders than Gamefreak, which doesn't help the situation. Even before I actually knew coding myself, I always suspected there were some things off going on behind Pokemon, such as how ridiculous the save times were, despite similar games like Megaman Battle Network never having such issues. Last Pokemon fangame I played was Pokemon Reborn, which aside from the minor overly edgy moments, was pretty good.
