There was a point where you'd kind of just assume magazines like Playboy were doing the "Vaseline Lens" effect to sort of compensate for women who might not be 110% perfect, but then airbrushing became more prevalent, and with the advent of Photoshop almost nothing we see is entirely "real". We're at the point now where pretty much every form of print media (and digital media as well, honestly) tends to soften features, cover up blemishes and wrinkles, smooth out cellulite, and even potentially shave down bodies that look too "wide".
