I ended up going with Mercedes just because I chose her before at the tower, but I find it hard to see any of them as love interests for Byleth for whatever the reason. They definitely made you work for victory in the battle because of the seemingly never-ending reinforcements. I never really came close to losing (although a couple units nearly got down to 0 HP), but man, it took a long time to get to Hubert.
