I enjoyed it well enough in theatres, but stopping afterwards to think about any of it has invariably led to the conclusion that none of it was really very good, particularly the fact that the overarching plot hasn't moved at all (they started the movie trying to escape from a planet with the First Order bearing down on them, and they finished the movie trying to escape from a different planet with the First Order bearing down on them and a couple side characters dead). It was thoroughly meh.

Coming out of TFA I couldn't wait for the next movie, to see Luke kick the shit out of the dark side on a scale like how Vader does it at the end of Rogue One.

You mean, when Vader was pretty much closer to his prime instead of being an old man that cut himself off from the force?

BTW, that Vader scene in RO is the best scene in any Star Wars movie.

It really is. As much as some people don't like Rogue One for the lack of character development, from the "cool space adventures and battles" angle, I genuinely feel it's one of the best movies in the series. But I can see how people that like Star Wars for the characters would have been less enthused about it, since they all sucked and then died.
