My first time through the game I probably spent an hour banging my head against that fight A boss I "gave up" on is Manus in DS1. Really, I only fought him once, got within a few hits of beating him, and then got one shot by his Dark Bead. I didn't notice a wind up for that move, so no pendant shield I could beat him pretty easily now that I know all his shit.
