Depends. If someone is always getting harassed, death threats, rape threats and so on by said person I'd understand if they got blocked.

I would totally understand that, too. Nobody should put up with harassment.
What do these people do in real life, though? If they're in a crowd of people, and happen to find themselves next to someone they don't agree with, do they stick their hands over their ears and say, "I'm not listening!"?
It's easy to ignore people and block people we don't agree with. Why not rise to the challenge and try to find something in common with them? ...or just don't take what they have to say to heart?
I frequent a brewery near me, and once in awhile there are some real douche bags in there. Instead of turning the other way, I look at it as an exercise in human relations. I'll strike up a conversation and try to get along.
It's sad that most people choose the path of least resistance. Seems childish to me.
