The school punishing them doesn't violate their first amendment rights, though. The school is a private entity that can have whatever rules about acceptable speech it wants. If they were to be jailed for it, then yeah, that'd be a violation, but as long as it's not the government silencing them, it's fair game.

State universities aren't private institutions, they have to follow government rules. If this was Harvard or something, then yea that would apply, but for Colorado State they are essentially run by the government and have to follow government rules.
