You can get paid under the table, then claim you have low income and get benefits from the government. The pay check wouldn't be $0 though, it would a small amount of money, so in the government records you're still employed.

Of course yes, you can take a job that under pays while playing under the table and your boss treats you like crap, but that's also on you.
