| Topic | Anti-Vaxxers vs Climate Change denialism. |
| dancer62 09/30/19 8:10:49 AM #31: | Both are political footballs. One sure way of detecting spin in the news is name-calling, and terms like "antivaxxers" and "climate deniers" make me very suspicious. My objections to the push for magical adult vaccines for flu, pneumonia, whatever, are personal, my first patient during my internship was paralyzed with Guillan-Barre Syndrome from the flu vaccine. Recently, I helped an elderly neighbor who developed symptoms of pneumonia from being pushed into taking the pneumonia vaccine. The reasons for taking adult vaccines are trivial, and the consequences can be considerably worse than the chances of actually getting a severe case of flu, pneumonia, etc. Climate change: "Global Warming" is clearly a myth, a measured increase of 0.4F in a century, in some places (other places have gotten colder) may be statistically significant, but unlikely to be real-world important. This seems borne out by activists now pushing "Climate Change" rather than "Global Warming". Fighting pollution might be a good idea. Greenhouse gasses (mostly from volcanoes and ruminant methane, a trivial amount man-made) may actually help ameliorate the severity of the coming Maunder Minimum mini-Ice-Age predicted in the next 15 years. People need to do critical thinking, and not jump on the latest politically motivated bandwagon. What's advertised as good for politicians or drug companies may not necessarily be sensible for the rest of us. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less ... Copied to Clipboard! |
