By that logic, anybody who speeds (just about everyone nowadays), jaywalks (also a lot of people), uses marijuana (still federally illegal) and a host of other laws that normal people break daily, makes us all hardened criminals. No, an illegal immigrant is equivalent to a shop lifter. They could have gone through the legal channels but they decided it's more convenient/cheaper to skip legal methods.
