No. They won't.

Blizzard will definitely backtrack on this, rescind the ban, and say "we support people's rights to free speech."

I almost guarantee it. Because Blizzard cares about its brand more than it cares about dollars. The loss of money from brand backlash > money lost from China.

LOL

The reason why they haven't doubled down as a result of the backlash. They haven't said anything at all. Their PR department is trying to decide directly how to craft a message that allows them to stay good with China, but not lose money in all of their other markets.

China accounts for 12% of Blizzard's revenue. In response to Diablo Immortal backlash they revealed (probably prematurely) that diablo 4 was in development. Even if we were to argue that they wouldn't lose the equivalent of that through fan backlash, they would lose significant amounts of revenue for it, which in turn would make Activision and stock holders angry. They're going to want this problem to go away, and unlike Apple iPhone users, gamers have a long memory. Also Blizzcon is coming up in November, and they don't want their marketing for new products mired with a scandal literally from a month prior to it.

I'd bet my account that they'll backtrack.
