So we're just supposed to ignore his contributions to cinema because he might have been racist?

What's wrong with simply saying he was a product of his time and while his views are reprehensible today, he's still an important person from the golden age of Hollywood?


I mean we aren't going to put up exhibits praising the Nazi scientists who experimented on people, even if America did obtain that information so it doesn't go to waste.


I think there's a difference between someone with unsavory opinions and literal war criminals.


There is, but the point was that we wouldn't really put up something praising someone or treating them as a centerpiece of our institutions just because of some incidental contributions.

John Wayne was a terrible person. You may have not known that (I didn't until I saw someone here mention what he said about white supremacy and googled to find out more). So why put him up as a statue somewhere?
