Yeah that's a good point.

I think becoming a resident of the US should be a simpler process; that would fix a lot of these issues. It sucks for illegal immigrants who are living a legitimate life in the US, but it is simply unfair that they are here while other people aren't who also want to immigrate to the US but are following the immigration process and are stuck in that bureaucracy.

Nah, if it's too easy then anyone can come here and we run into the same problem.

It had to be selective, just like Canada and the Norwegian countries and other countries the left wants us to emulate.

If anyone can come here for any reason, with citizenship being just "Sign here please" at the border, that is still open borders.

"A simple process" is not letting anyone in for any reason.

How simple and fast do you want it? Realistically the side that is becoming too affixed to open borders is not saying "we want a faster process" in good faith.

It really means it wants what is effectively no process.

Perhaps the biggest issue with immigration right now is separation of families. Why should it take the sibling of an American citizen (F4 visa) 10-20 years to get a green card, for example? It does not take that long to check someone's credentials. Why are parents excluded from getting a family visa?

It is possible to make the immigration system better without instituting open borders.
