I had a buddy growing up that would run his mouth a lot then when confronted say things like I dont want to fight, you fuckface! Despite the light that example paints him in, he wasnt a bad guy. He was just really anxious much of the time and let it get the best of him in his youth.

How I dealt with it was by not getting involved in his messes. He wasnt bothered that I hung him to dry when he got himself into trouble. Thats the crux of what kept our friendship alive. If not for that, there is no way Id have stuck around.

Toxic is a pretty broad term though. Everyone has a different tolerance and definition. Im extremely fucking uncomfortable around drug users but Im cool sitting around in the middle of nowhere with the boys firing off rifles or shotguns, even though theyre objectively deadly. Other people may reverse those feels. Its a hard thing to tell somebody how to handle.

At the end of the day, if you think the other person is toxic, they are to you. Cut them loose and stop being their victim.
