Didn't the federal court rule that the max you could get for a wrongful death was 1 or 2 million(I could be wrong here as I remember seeing it ages ago)? If that is the case, I can see how it would be that low. They can't give more than what a wrongful death would warrant, that would cause all kinds of issues. For the medical stuff I am sure they are filling that with the PD's insurance. A few years ago my uncle worked for a company that builds super fancy houses and after a hurricane came through he was inspecting the frame of a current project and the wall fell on him and VERY much fucked up his lower back. The company he worked for paid out 500k and the insurance handles ALL of his medical stuff regarding his back even to this day.
