Toss a noisemaker or flare to distract the xenomorph and fucking run the other way. Never stop moving unless the xeno is on your ass and then hide only as long as it takes for it to move on to another room. Once you get familiar with the motion tracker it's very easy to predict what the xeno is going to do. The only time you ever have to hold your breath when hiding is when the xeno is locked into the "search" animation and literally looking into whatever you're hiding in.
