I dont really understand it, in a new title dont you want to be catching and training mostly new pokemon? No. Youd want everything there plus new ones, with balance. The "everything plus new stuff" design philosophy seems nice on paper, but in practice, that's somewhere on the order of 1000 Pokemon to try balancing. The series already has major issues with 90% of Pokemon being useless, and that list only grows with each new generation. I'm okay with the idea of having fewer, better-balanced Pokemon. That's meta though. That's a whole different world than playing for fun. In any game there will be a handful of guys that a by far better than the rest. To curb that only make a few pokemon from each gen meta worthy and the rest serviceable with optimal investments.
