Whether it's true or false, the reason it's believable is because Disney's goal has fairly clearly been to kill off all the important characters from the original trilogy to "make way for the new characters". This scene is supposedly what caused the most outrage in the test screenings, but all these characters dying at the same time is apparently in every cut regardless of reshoots. --- The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him.
