Star wars is a family drama, set in space, with laser swords and space magic and cool spaceships. They could do away with the whole light side of the force/dark side of the force if they wanted (grey Jedi ARE a part of the extended universe, and the whole light side/dark side forced dichotomy kinda hamstrings both the PT and ST).
