More than anything, though, the fan service feels especially appropriate because so much of the effort from this movie was about reconnecting the threads fron the OT to the New Trilogy after Rian took a SHIT on so much of that. Sometimes I was just satisfied when J.J. spent a scene just fixing some of the garbage of Episode 8. Like, when Rian "circumvents expectations" by "undermining the entire fucking conceit of space battles by hyperdriving into a Star Destroyer".
