deaths related to drugs, alcohol, and suicide...Drug overdoses were the most common cause of death...childhood abuse and neglect are linked to suicide attempts in their youth...marrying later and less connected to political or religious communities...More millennials also reported in the survey that they had no acquaintances, friends, close friends, or best friends.

As someone who has been pointing out these problems for years, you would not believe the level of pushback I got against bringing any of this up pre-2016. There have been economic problems like the Great Depression, as pointed out above, but I said we were also in a moral Depression when it came to social policy. By the end of 2016, life expectancy in the US declined for 3 years in a row - unseen since the WWI era flu epidemic. But there was no epidemic this time. It was solely the result of bad policy decisions that have been made. But nobody wanted to talk about it until now.

Data always has a few years of lag and I believe there have been some improvements recently, I know the opioid deaths are down, life expectancy has also come back up slightly, but we have a ways to go because this issue was almost totally neglected for years.
