That celebration, that curation, is what makes this collection great. Ultimate specifically has a single player mode (World of Light) that strengthens this museum-like quality. This game really is a virtual tour of video games packed with hundreds of characters and thousands of songs and the most careful attention to detail possible. Even the third party characters are treated with surgical care, protecting their moves and simulating the feeling of playing their games. This is a great way to describe the appeal of Ultimate: a tour. It reminds me of being a kid and playing with various unrelated action figures but headcanoning it to work. Brawl will always be superior to Ultimate because of the way Nintendo had the characters interact in SSE. It is and will always be the apex of fanservice until KH4 finds a way to integrate FF, Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars into a cohesive universe.
