Conversely, if it's barbaric to execute someone today, then it's barbaric to execute someone in a decade from now. Death row only makes sense as a means of milking tax payer money in keeping the condemned alive for as long as possible. "You took a life. The reason it takes so long is because of the appeals process, which pretty regularly results in death row inmates being exonerated.
