I am back with the first half of my top 10! I basically started from a pool of contenders which I listened to 3-5 times each to try and gain some appreciation for things I had missed, but for most of them, uh, it just made me realize I was too optimistic with my initial rating. Even with 10 songs, there was lots of re-ordering and songs getting taken on and off the list, so I definitely made the right decision not to make this a "you hit me with 1000 VGM" topic. Heck, I still wonder how people can deal with 100+ songs!

10. Katamari Damacy - Katamari on the Rocks (Score: 760, previously 822)

Whoops, this was one of the songs I thought I really liked but eventually got tired of. I do love the energy in here and enjoy the parts where the guy sings the main melody, but it's kinda too long for its own good and the in-between sections aren't that interesting. Trumpets and bongos still good!

9. Girls' Frontline - Connexion (Score: 770, previously 781)

I've gotten a bit more used to this singer, but still get turned off by the tone of her vocals. I did realize that I really like the melody in the chorus after coming to accept its more subdued feel (I preferred the pre-chorus before). AND MADE A WALL, A HEDGE BE-TWEEEEEEEEEEEEN - would definitely like this one better if it was faster, though.

8. Yakuza Kiwami 2 - Outlaw's Lullaby (Score: 780, previously 833)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W61-AJIZFCk
Another one that made a big first impression, but I think the lack of more conventional melodies and short loop made me bored after a while. I always like the fun energy that jazz can bring, but definitely prefer it to be paired with parts that have a nicer tonality. Still have no idea how they got that super-high muted trumpet sound; it's just a bit too weird for me to appreciate over something more familiar.

7. Planet 51: The Game - Looking for the Comet (Score: 800, previously 711)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZPIHlCgJqs
Hey, here's one that saw a big boost for a change! I think I was dismissive of this at first because my brain lowered expectations when it saw "licensed song" and "weird CGI animated movie from a no-name studio". This is definitely my kind of song with the melancholy guitar and pretty chords though! I also came to appreciate the second half a lot more, though the acoustic solo in the first half remains my favourite. Now my biggest complaint is only that the song should be longer! Also the faces in the thumbnail make me uncomfortable; that astronaut guy is staring right at me with a creepy smile and he needs to stop!!!

6. CONCLUSE - Lost in 1993 (Score: 810, previously 815)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh4vu3Slty4
I just noticed this song and the previous one both start on a D minor-ish chord. Anyway, this is probably my favourite in the top 10 in terms of instrumentation; these synths are the kind of sound you could do anything with and I'd be able to keep listening for a long time. The dubstep section does bring it down a little bit, but I don't mind it as much now that I've taken notice of the brief "stab, stab" synth chords that come in there and persist until the ending, which I think are cool.

Rest of the list and bonus ratings later this week.
