What you guys aren't taking into consideration with Carlin is that he effectively reinvented the entire art of stand-up comedy during his career.

I'm not sure that's terribly relevant within the confines of this discussion. The fact that he refreshed his stand-up doesn't necessarily have any impact on how thought-provoking it is.

And the things you're crediting to Carlin were part of a broader trend.

Christopher Titus

Especially his first show dealing with suicide, mental illness, substans abuse, domestic violence and lots more.

I like his show and I remember his stand-up being pretty funny, but I can't recall much in the way of specifics of either.
