The logic was "pfft, it's Fortnite, it's crazy popular even if some people hate it!" which was a severe underestimation of just how many people hate it, as well as a complete write-off of Horizon Zero Dawn which I thought was mostly just a mediocre BotW for people who didn't have a Switch but turns out to have quite a following. Nier losing to Divinity is probably down to me currently playing Divinity and thinking it's extremely good, and assuming the rest of the gaming community thinks the same when my opinions are often very much at odds with gamefaqs at large.
